Pitchers and catchers have reported to Fort Myers.
Spring training is underway. And baseball nuts like me couldn’t be
happier. But before I get into the Red Sox later this week, there was a
little taste of baseball right here in America’s Hometown yesterday. more

Brian Trupiano demonstrates fielding positions.
“There are five types of ground balls you should learn
about fielding,” explained Brain Trupiano to the group of youngsters gathered
around him. “They are the standard straight ground ball right in front of you,
forehand, cross over back-hand, feet planted back-hand and charge play on a
slow roller.” Changing his body positioning and his arm angles, Trupiano
continued to show how to make each of these plays, and had each of the young
ball players practice the same.
Fielding was one of three baseball skills taught by former
professional ballplayers to more than one hundred boys and girls who attended
last month's baseball clinic put on by the Plymouth River Eels.

PLYMOUTH - The
Plymouth River Eels hosted a used sports equipment drive last month at
the Colony Place Enchanted Village. The drive garnered an enormous
response from the community, including contributions of everything from
golf clubs to footballs. The donations will benefit the Plymouth Boys
and Girls Club.
Wally the Green Monster posed for photos and signed autographs at the event, and River Eels CEO Tom O’Brien read Jerry Remy’s Wally the Green Monster and his Journey Through Red Sox Nation to a group of more than 50 children.
Many
took advantage of the opportunity to sign up for the Plymouth River
Eels season ticket waiting list and the monthly e-mail newsletter.

Behind
the laughter, sweat, and toothy smiles of children at the Boys & Girls Club of
Plymouth lies oft-worn athletic equipment and playground balls.
Dodge
balls, baseballs, baseball mitts, footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, and are
amongst their most coveted items, popular with the hundreds of Plymouth youth
that they serve.
The
Boys & Girls Club, which offers sports facilities as well as a computer lab
and a library, serves as both a safe haven for kids to stay physically active
and a training ground for young minds.
