Plymouth still in line for minor-league team

Wait 'til next year is a common baseball phrase in these environs, and it is holding true for the Plymouth River Eels.

In November 2005, when organizers announced their plans to bring minor league baseball to Plymouth, they hoped to have everything in place by this year.

Now it seems that timeline was a bit optimistic. But the delay has not discouraged the Plymouth River Eels' parent company, Bay Colony Baseball & Athletics LLC, as it forges ahead.

In that context, the Eels have promoted Michael S. Rothberg as their new chief operating officer.

"With the natural evolution of our company, we are in a position to continue toward our goal of bringing professional baseball to America's Hometown," Thomas J. O'Brien, CEO and president of the organization, stated in a release.

"I have known Mike for more than a decade and he is the perfect person to continue to steer this company and this project in the right direction."

The $34.5 million project would include a 5,000-seat stadium planned for West Plymouth. There would be adjoining office space and a small convention center.
