![]() Dodge balls, baseballs, baseball mitts, footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, and are amongst their most coveted items, popular with the hundreds of Plymouth youth that they serve. The Boys & Girls Club, which offers sports facilities as well as a computer lab and a library, serves as both a safe haven for kids to stay physically active and a training ground for young minds. The Plymouth River Eels, Plymouth’s independent professional baseball team, is pleased to announce an opportunity for members of the community to put new or used athletic equipment in the hands of those same very special boys and girls, by collecting new and used athletic equipment at the sports-themed day in the Enchanted Storybook Village, located in Colony Place, Sunday, December 9, from 10 AM to 5 PM. All donors will receive a free gift, compliments of Dick’s Sporting Goods. Wally the Green Monster, fresh off a World Series Championship, will be on hand to meet children and pose for pictures, as will other special guests for this holiday charity event. “Anything you could donate to the club would be very welcome,” said Karen Wierman, business manager at the Plymouth chapter. “We go through a lot of balls, dodge balls, a lot of playground balls, basketballs.” Ms. Wierman said that the Boys and Girls Club of Plymouth was thrilled about the event, as was Tom O’Brien, President and CEO of Bay Colony Baseball and Athletics, LLC., the parent company of the River Eels. “It’s the holiday season,” O’Brien said. “What better way to spend it than with family and friends, giving the gift of sport to kids in need?” Ms. Wierman said that dodge balls, playground balls, baseballs, footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, and baseball gloves are their most desired donations; other items, including cleats, soccer shin guards, bikes, golf clubs, ice skates, roller skates and other clothing-type equipment will be distributed by the club to children of needy families in the area. “We’d like to thank our sponsor, Dick’s Sporting Goods, for helping us get all of the donations into the hands of the children,” said Mike Rothberg, Bay Colony COO. “We hope that everyone can come by to donate while doing their holiday shopping and support the Boys & Girls Club of Plymouth.” For more information on the Boys & Girls Club of Plymouth, please vist them at www.bgcplymouth.org For more infomation on the holiday happening at Colony Place, please visit www.colonyplace.com |
