In the zone: Dog days of summer

After reading the headline, anyone who knows me would automatically think: “Uh-oh, here he goes again, dreaming about dogs.” But that’s not the case this time. Although I’m making progress in my quest for a Scottish terrier or Labrador retriever, I still haven’t quite convinced Kaitlin that live animals are better than those of the stuffed persuasion. But I digress.

Plymouth River Eels covering the bases

Three balls, two strikes, two outs, bottom of the ninth. The Plymouth River Eels have stepped up to the plate. They've taken a swing and the ball has started heading out of the park.

Plymouth's first independent league baseball team is inches away from hitting a grand slam. After getting a unanimous standing ovation from the board of selectmen, the River Eels have only two more major steps in front of them before they can start celebrating their big hit.

River Eels sponsor neighborhood Little League teams

The Plymouth River Eels are not quite a team but they are an official sponsor in the South Plymouth, Kingston & Plymouth Little League programs.

The River Eel logo which is an Eel wrapped around a "P" has been etched into a fitted black cap for both the South Plymouth and Kingston's baseball organizations.
Their sponsorship which helps support the kids in the program will be debuted in South Plymouth during their opening day ceremonies Saturday and on Sunday during Plymouth's opening day. Kingston's opening day was last weekend.

Play ball! Selectmen support River Eels, Stadium

A proposed independent-league baseball team won unanimous support from Plymouth selectmen last night after assurances that neighbors’ concerns would be addressed.

Bay Colony Baseball and Athletics, a company formed by a group of local residents, plans to build a 5,000 seat stadium on about 25 acres in West Plymouth next to Sam’s Club in the Colony Placeshopping plaza, now under construction.

River Eels Welcome Independent Competition

Backers of a plan to bring an Independent League baseball team to Plymouth say they won’t be scared off by a competing plan to put a similar team in Boston.

We’re not concerned in the least for a number of reasons,” Plymouth River Eels president and CEO Thomas O’Brien said, “It shows the value of these projects as major attractions and economic engines.”

Eels get first hit

PLYMOUTH – As a tourist town, stadium business developer Michael Rothberg said, Plymouth’s attractions can be seen in a day. The Mayflower, the Rock, the Plantation, the beaches – all can be soaked up in 24 hours.

“Our intention with this project is to take in one extra day,” Rothberg said.
